The 24 Carrot Gardens Project establishes gardens in schools and communities where children learn to grow, cook and eat healthy produce. Social Enterprises under development include: pop-up cafes, market stalls, a natural soap and beauty company, and a fashion line featuring plant-based dyes at our free fashion school, The Material Institute, in New Orleans.
All of this is done stylishly and sustainably with practices like our zero-waste policy. For example, we host ceramic workshops where students make their own tableware to eat and serve from, eliminating the need for single-use, disposable products. Reusable napkins are dyed with plants from the garden.
Our gardens are located in fifteen Tasmanian schools and communities, and two New Orleans neighbourhoods.

24 Carrot Schools
Our schools program sets the gold standard for primary school kitchen gardens. We are proudly aligned with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and offer fun learning activities in the fields of art, science, sustainability and culinary art.
24 Carrot Community Gardens
Our community projects provide neighborhoods with access to healthy, affordable food. Participants learn to grow and cook produce from the garden, and enjoy the benefits of a nutritious diet. Our garden-based social enterprises also offer job training and business opportunities.
24 Carrot Social Enterprises
Our social enterprises use plants and produce from the gardens in their businesses. Income is generated through pop-up kitchens, market stalls, the Munch Machine food truck, a natural soap and beauty company, and a plant-based fashion line from our New Orleans-based Material Institute. All profits go back into the programs.
